Ningbo

This weekend we went to Ningbo which is a "small town" of six million 100 miles southeast of Shanghai. We left Friday at 8AM and arrived at noon. On the way to Ningbo we crossed the world's longest bridge. It's a shade longer than the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway outside New Orleans.

The weather was VERY foggy so we really couldn't see more than a kilometer on either side. The tides in the bay the bridge crosses are very big. As you can see in this picture:

there are two hovercrafts and a cruise boat sitting on a muddy bottom, not sitting on the water. After we arrived in Ningbo we went to two different temples. The first was a new temple built within the last 100 years and the second was built in about the year 1000. It was really old and still in really good shape. Here are a couple pictures of that temple.

On Saturday we went to a lake that supplies Ningbo with its water. We went up to the beginning of the lake to see the gorges. The gorge is not as big as Three Gorges where the big dam is being built, but it was still a beautiful area. The path to walk to the gorge was also very interesting. It was just put right into the wall and has supports, but it's kinda scary to walk on.

Saturday night we went to a restaurant that my sister would have loved. I'll let the pictures describe how good the food was:

Sunday (today) we went to Chaing Kai Shek's house. He was the leader of the Kuo Ming Tan Party during the 1920s in China. He was the leader before came to power. He came from a wealthy Chinese family and had two houses. His second house had great views, including a 100+ foot waterfall. **pictures to come later :) That's all for now!
